International Literacy Day

As part of International Literacy Day on 8th September, Elmwood College would like to encourage potential learners to contact Elmwood College to see what learning opportunities are available.

Ken Rutherford, Director of External Relations said, “Elmwood College can support a whole range of literacy needs, both in College and in the community, where we have a large infrastructure of outreach centres across North East Fife.”

International Literacy Day is an UNESCO backed initiative, which began in 1966 and has been celebrated around the world, to recognise that basic learning needs of all people of all ages should be met in each and every country, both developed and developing.

It is believed that 1 in 5 people in Scotland has difficulty with reading, writing and using numbers. Scotland’s Colleges have an important role to play in supporting and developing literacy and numeracy skills of their students to help them progress in their education and future employment.

Elmwood also provides ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Language) course provision for people who wish to improve their understanding of written and spoken English, including family learning classes.

If you are interested in what educational opportunities Elmwood can offer you contact our admissions department on tel. 01334 658856 or Elmwood Local our community learning team on tel. 01334 658868.
