Students from the Student Development Unit of Elmwood College were treated to a fish filleting masterclass led by Bill Morris of St Monans Smoke House recently.
The students, who are studying the Life Options course at Elmwood, have been learning over the past year new cookery techniques, which are designed to broaden the students’ knowledge and help them develop skills in food preparation.
The students have also been researching organisations in Fife, which produce local food, visiting places such as farms, butchers, fishmongers, and bakers to gather information, which they will include in a leaflet they are designing. The College hopes this project will raise awareness of local produce and help support the local community.
Lecturer Suzi Gasparini who organised the event said, “Every student in the class had at least one chance to try filleting, which they thoroughly enjoyed. It was such a great experience and a fantastic outlet for the students’ desire to learn. All of our students love learning new skills, so it was a most successful day and helped with our current project.”
