Two Howe of Fife Rugby players visited Elmwood College recently, in an attempt to help Student Development students understand the game and the lifestyle of a rugby player.
Players Andy McLean and Matt Daly got involved, dedicating their free time to helping the students with their studies. The students all got a chance to ask questions about rugby life, before going to Duffus Park, where they received a one hour coaching session from the players.
The students are all currently participating in an ASDAN Health & Fitness unit and part of the unit requires that they interview a sports person about their training programme and the sport.
Matt said, "Rugby and all kinds of sport is such an important part of an active lifestyle for young adults, especially when so many would rather sit at home and play on their games consoles, it's great to see a class so excited about it. We have strong links with Elmwood (our sponsor), so it was nice to be able to give something back.”
Tracey Wight, Section Head, Transitions at Elmwood, said, “We were delighted that Andy and Matt agreed to come along to assist our learners gain a greater insight into the world of rugby. It was a great experience for all of the students, as they not only learned more about the actual game of rugby, but heard about the success of our local rugby team Howe of Fife 1st XV.”
