Elmwood College Art & Design students at Elmwood College are getting ready for a study trip to Madrid.
The students have been working tirelessly recently rasing money for the trip. An art auction was held, which was open to all students, staff, friends, family and the general public, featured paintings and prints by students and staff from the NC, HNC and HND Art & Design courses, along with work from the NC Interior Decoration group.
Madrid is one of Spain's most popular destinations and is renowned for its large quantity of cultural attractions and art galleries.
The annual study trip forms part of the students course each year. Study trips are seen as an integral part of all courses in the art department, allowing students to view first hand much of the fine art and design pieces that feature in the art history element of their studies. In previous years Elmwood art students have visited Amsterdam, Florence, London and Barcelona, taking in many of the galleries as part of their art history studies.
Art & design tutor, Susan Murray said, “The hands-on aspect of the trip is really worthwhile – it is only by seeing the cities galleries themselves that the students will really appreciate the beauty and complexity of these works of art. It also creates powerful opportunities for the students to develop their creativity and understanding of art.”
The Elmwood College art department has recently benefited from the addition several new courses, including the HNC/D Visual communication with optional units in Illustration, Graphic Design, and Web Development and a new NC level course in Digital Media Computing.
