Sports Students Win Volleyball Tournament

Two Elmwood College Volleyball teams, one male and one female, recently took part in the Scottish Colleges Sports Volleyball Tournament at Dundee University’s Institute of Sports Exercise where they competed against teams from Adam Smith, Stevenson, Inverness, Telford and Dundee.

After winning the group matches with a 2-point lead, the Elmwood male team went on to beat Stevenson College in the final.  Elmwood will now compete in the National Finals in April.

The Elmwood female team were less successful and despite giving an impressive performance, were knocked out in the qualifying heats.

HNC Sports Coaching student, Michael Watt said, “The tournament was great fun and extremely well organised. It also provided us with an opportunity to test our skills against some strong opposition.  I’m looking forward to taking part in the final, which we will be training for as often as we can.”

Donald MacKay, Sports & Fitness Co-ordinator at Elmwood, said, “This is the second year in a row the male team have progressed to the finals.  Both teams displayed a professional attitude and good sportsmanship throughout the event.”
