Two Elmwood College Hairdressing students have recently returned from the regional heat of this year's National Wella Xposure Awards in East Kilbride. Students from all over Scotland demonstrated their hairdressing skills at South Lanarkshire College earlier this week.
Students were required to submit a photograph of their ‘cut and colour’ models for the 1st heat of the competition. From this, only 20 students were selected to compete in the regional heat. Elmwood SVQ Level 2 Hairdressing students, Loren Harris and Jordan Paterson were successful in securing places and had to re-produce their total look on their models and present them along with a mood-board showing what inspired their styles. The models then took part in a catwalk show.
Hair & Beauty lecturer Janice Whyte is proud of the students’ saying, “The students worked very hard in preparation for the event and their commitment was rewarded by being accepted for the regional heats. Our students didn’t get through to the final, but this was the first time we have entered this competition and to get 2nd places in the 2nd stage is just fantastic!”
From the regional heats, the top five entries will go through to the final, which will take place this June at the Wella Professionals London Studio. Top prizes include £1,000 of Wella Professionals training vouchers, a £500 tool kit, the chance to work with a top hairdresser for the day and educational support for one year.
