Life Options students from Elmwood College recently hosted a French themed coffee morning for special guests from the St Andrews & District Soroptomists Society
As part of their course unit “Wider World”, the students from the Life Options class served their guests in the Garden Gallery Café with tea, coffee and snacks, whilst speaking French.
The St Andrews & District Soroptomists were invited because they have been very supportive of the College in the past, joining in with various departmental activities.
Gayle Nelson, Lecturer said, “The students worked very hard learning to greet people and to introduce themselves in French, which was a real challenge. They also practised making crepes and other French foods, which was great fun and went down very well on the day! ”
She continued, "The morning also highlighted the great work being done by our students as well as giving them the opportunity to meet and get to know others from the community.”
The Elmwood Garden Gallery Café helps prepare Supported Learning Students for entry-level career positions or work placements within the community. Since its inception last year, it has helped many students learn how to deal with money, the basics of food preparation, food hygiene and social interaction.
