A former Elmwood College student is thrilled to be working for a prestigious golf club. Neville Wenhold originally from South Africa came over to study HNC Golf Course Management and recently graduated from the College.
Neville started off as a First Assistant at the Gary Player Country Club which is located in Sun City, South Africa. After only three weeks he was promoted to Assistant Course Manager. He said, “Taking up this role has been unbelievable so far, scary at first but after finding my feet everything has been going great.”
Neville commented about his time at College, “The Elmwood Education behind my name, made me stand out well above the other Greenkeepers in the area, which included Pretoria and Johannesburg. Putting everything into practice that I have learned at Elmwood, makes the playing conditions on the course look better and better by the day. I'm hoping to work myself into the Golf Course Managers position one day.”
At the moment Neville is preparing the golf course for The Nedbank Golf Challenge which will be televised worldwide. He goes on to say, “I wouldn't say the course is where I would like it to be, but we haven’t had proper rain since May and the average temperature for the past two months has been 38 degrees. I’m really looking forward to the start of the competition in December and its exciting to see golfers from around the world compete at the golf course.”
