Elmwood's French Connection

The results of the recent Elmwood College Window Display Competition are now in!

Students from the NC Interior Decoration course were given the task of designing window displays for various local shops to coincide for the twinning ceremony of Cupar with the town of Sainte Ménehould, France.

Mayor, Monsieur Courot and Members of the Sainte Ménehould Council were asked to vote for the window display they liked most. First place went to Tracy MacAulay and Maggie Mullans for their display in Stuarts, and second was Amanda Millar and Kelly Murray’s display in Hidden Secrets.

All participating students were presented with limited addition Wemyss Pottery  dishes and official badges from the Cupar Twinning Association. Tracy and Maggie won a 3-day trip to Paris and Sainte Ménehould to view French Christmas window displays and hope to use this experience to inspire their future work.

Maggie commented, "I’m absolutely thrilled that we won, especially when you look at the competition. The twinning ceremony was fantastic and it was lovely to meet our French friends.”

She continued, “The course at Elmwood is so detailed and I love focusing on the practical side of visual merchandising, which will be invaluable when looking for employment.”

Lecturer Ann Leitch explained the importance of the window display unit to the students saying, “This assignment provided a very real experience of fulfilling a client’s needs, meeting a deadline and having the work viewed and crited by the public. All of the students worked very hard, within a tight schedule.”
