Elmwood College Hair & Beauty students were celebrating awards at this year’s Aberdeen College Hair & Beauty Festival 2011 this week.
The festival held at the Aberdeen Beach Ballroom saw twenty-six students from Elmwood take part. Other colleges participating, included, Telford, Dundee, Inverness, Angus, Adam Smith, Moray, Banff & Buchan and Aberdeen Colleges. The students competed in categories including, best hairstyles, nail care and make-up treatments based around themes of fantasy, Mother Earth, commercial and high-fashion.
NVQ Level 3 Beauty Therapy student, Louise Tammy Carstairs, won 2nd place in Fantasy Make-up category and Level 2 Hairdressing student, Aimee Furey, achieved a 3rd place in the High Fashion category.
Hairdressing lecturer, Janice Whyte, said, “The event offered our students the chance to compete against other colleges and see how their skills measured up to the competition. Our students did a great job and we are now getting ready to take part in the annual Association of Hairdressers and Therapists competition qualifying heats next month at Coatbridge College, where we hope to build on our success.”
The Hair & Beauty Department at Elmwood College offers a wide range of treatments, including massage, facials, manicures/pedicures and various hair styling services.
