HNC Visual Communications students from Elmwood College have designed a range of Christmas cards, which are on sale in the popular St Andrews gift shop, Bonkers.
Students, Dawn Samuel-Davidson, Vicki Dreyer, Tracey Scott, Bronwyn Tudor and Ruairidh Reid created such eye catching designs that when Bonkers Manager, Lindsey Adam met with the College to judge the finished designs, she agreed to sell the cards.
Initially only one design was to be chosen, printed and sold, however after she saw the final entries, she liked them all so much that five designs were chosen to be sold in her shop.
Elmwood lecturer, Sarah Geddes set a brief for the students with the intention of giving them a project that would not only develop their design skills, but would also raise money for a class study trip.
She had planned on having the students sell the cards to friends and family as well as having a display at the College Reception. Little did she know that Bonkers would be keen to sell the cards too.
Lindsey said, “I would like to say that it has been good working with the students and Sarah on the Christmas card project. It was interesting taking their artwork and visualising it as sellable Christmas cards. The finished cards are of an excellent quality and the designs are all eye-catching and proving to be very popular with our customers. We are always looking for interesting things to sell in Bonkers and the Elmwood cards are quite unique and appealing.”
Profits from the cards will contribute to a Visual Communication class field trip next year, in either Italy or Spain.
Elmwood are now in talks with Bonkers and hope to continue with the partnership, by designing Valentines cards for next year.
