Staff and students from Elmwood College’s Hair and Beauty department had cause to celebrate on Wednesday, when Level 2 Hairdressing student Gillian Wilcock competed in the Scottish heat of the Wella Xposure Competition, which was held at Clydebank College.
Gillian from Glenrothes was selected to represent Elmwood College and Scotland in the UK final, which will take place in Wella Studios, London on the 7th June.
Gillian enrolled on the Level 2 Hairdressing course last September and this was her second experience of competition. She described her experience at Clydebank as, “Terrifying but exciting.” Gillian’s three children, Brodie, Danielle and Adam are very proud to have an award-winning mum.
Gillian was required to create a cut and colour and also design a mood board to show her inspiration and development of ideas. Fiona Craig, Programme Manager for Hair and Beauty at Elmwood said, “Gillian has a good eye for colour placement and picked up the brief of the competition, creating a stunning finish on her model.”
Lecturer Janice Whyte, who has worked with the hairdressing students, was delighted with the outcome of the competition saying, “Gillian is in her first year at Elmwood and demonstrates ability and natural talent and remained motivated and professional throughout the competition.”
