An Elmwood College doubles badminton team have return from the Scottish Colleges Sport ‘East’ badminton final at Edinburgh’s Meadowbank Sports Centre recently.
The original event was scheduled for December but was rearranged because of the weather conditions. There were individuals and teams there from five different colleges including Elmwood, Telford, Stevenson Adam Smith and Aberdeen.
Elmwood triumphed in the women’s doubles event, with NC Sport, Health & Fitness student, Laura Dalgleish and HNC Sports Coaching with Development student, Anja Boehme from Elmwood topped the group with 6 out of 8 wins. They will be joined by runners up, Stevenson College in the finals in Aberdeen on the 8th of March.
Laura said, “The tournament was great fun and extremely well organised. It also provided us with an opportunity to test our skills against some strong opposition. I’m looking forward to taking part in the final, which we will be training for as often as we can.”
Donald MacKay, Sports & Fitness Co-ordinator at Elmwood, said, “The standard of play was very high and there were some very tight matches. I would like to thank all the players for their fantastic cooperation and help through out the day. Well done to Anja and Laura and I look forward to seeing them in the finals.”
