Elmwood College won the runner’s-up award – a ‘Highly Commended’ in the Equality and Diversity Category at Scotland's Colleges Annual Awards. The prizes were presented by television personality Sally Magnusson at a glittering ceremony at Glasgow’s Radisson Blu Hotel, on Tuesday 29 November, where 36 colleges battled it out in a wide range of categories.
Carol Borthwick, Alison Boyle and The Principal, Jim Crooks represented the College at the ceremony. Their entry was centred on their work with Supported Accommodation for learners with additional needs and came very close to winning the award, with judges acknowledging the quality of the submission.
Celebrating their twelfth year, the awards are open to all of Scotland's colleges and provide a valuable opportunity to gain recognition for a range of developments and initiatives. Each year Scotland's Colleges receives many examples of innovative and excellent college practice through the annual awards process.
Alison Boyle, Guidance and Inclusion Manager at Elmwood spoke of her delight, saying, “The awards are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the work of colleges and the contributions by staff. I am thrilled the team got the recognition they deserved, especially considering all the hard work that was put in."
