Elmwood Victory at Major Golf Event

Two Elmwood College Teams are celebrating after taking 1st and 3rd places recently at the 2010 British Colleges Championship at the Fairmont Golf Course, St Andrews.

Elmwood College (Team A) narrowly took the win from second place Cornwall College. Elmwood (Team B) were placed 3rd. A total of 129 students from 23 colleges around the UK, took part in the event.

Elmwood NC Golf Studies students John Salmon and Kevin Leitch also finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the men’s individual event, while HNC Professional Golf student, Rachel Hanlon finished third overall in the female event.

PGA Golf Professional for Elmwood College, Graeme McDowall, said, “The students did the themselves and the College proud with their attitude and professionalism. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience of taking part in a major golfing event and the experience they have gained is invaluable.”

Elmwood offers a wide range of golf related courses from National Certificate to Higher National Diploma level and includes Performance Golf, Golf Course Management, Greenkeeping and Golf Facility Management.

Internationally, the College is recognised as a Centre of Excellence in golf related studies, which appeals to students from across the globe. One of the attractions of studying golf at Elmwood is the College’s 18-hole golf course, where students can develop their practical skills and gain valuable work experience.
