Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister Visits Elmwood

Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Education Isgandar Isgandarov and his accompanying delegation of eight visited Elmwood College on Thursday 20th May. The aim of the visit is to create a working group, dedicated to creating modern approaches to the delivery of curriculum.

The visit takes place within the framework of the 'Vocational Education and Training Reform Strategy and Pilot Implementation in Azerbaijan.' The project is financed by the European Union and is implemented by a consortium led by the British Council including PEM GmbH and Aarhus Tech.

The Minister and his associates were welcomed to the College by Principal, Jim Crooks, who proceeded to discuss and explain curriculum at Elmwood. The delegation were then invited to lunch at the College Golf Course's Fairways Restaurant, where they had the opportunity to tour the golf facilities.

Elmwood College Principal, Jim Crooks, said, "The visit by the Azerbaijan delegation was significant in that it was both senior political figures and civil service managers that came to see how Elmwood College has built up our expertise in delivering vocational education over the last fifty years. The delegates had expressly asked to see Elmwood College in their British Council led trip. This also gave us a showcase opportunity for convincing the British Council that Elmwood is a committed international partner that has competence and capability second to none in the UK!"

He continued, "Although they were completely enthralled by the Golf provision, they were also interested in following up on more general issues such as enterprise and commercial activities. It has to be one of the most significant visits we have hosted at Elmwood. We look forward to developing links in the future."
