A recent qualification delivered by a partnership between Elmwood College and Auchtermuchty Primary School has been hailed as a great success.
Elmwood Local and the school joined forces to help provide an Access 3 SQA qualification for Primary 7 pupils. The purpose was to give the pupils an understanding of recognition for learning and to provide them with an insight into further education. The children's teacher taught the qualification and the materials and assessments were provided by Elmwood.
Initially, after a short while of working on the course, the children were invited to the College for a day, where they were given a guided tour of the facilities and a chance to see some of the activities students were engaging in. The day also included a visit to one of the I.T. equipped rooms where they undertook their first assessment with College tutor, Lesley Bathgate.
Lesley said, "We are delighted with the partnership, as it has enabled us to contribute to the delivery of enhanced education to an audience we wouldn't usually have. Auchtermuchty Primary School have been exceptional in delivering the course and we now hope to have similar programmes run in the future."
Auchtermuchty Teacher, Gillian Thomson, who has been teaching the class commented, "I believe that Elmwood Local's involvement has led to faster implementation of this unique method of teaching. The class have really enjoyed the work!"
