Popular Elmwood College Business Studies lecturer, Mhairi More is to retire this summer after 35 years of college service. Colleagues joined with Mhairi in the College’s Themes Restaurant for a reception lunch to mark the event.
At 22 years of age Mhairi was appointed to the post of Business Studies Lecturer at Elmwood in 1975 after completing a 3 year Diploma in Commerce at Edinburgh College of Commerce.
Mhairi’s career has allowed her to witness many changes in technology. Manual typewriters changed to electric type during the 70’s, updating to computers, which were introduced in the early 80’s. The technology that they brought with them meant that her job required her to keep up-to-date with modern technology.
Mhairi, said, “I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching administration and feel very privileged to have worked with such a large number of students, giving them all an employable skill. Business Studies has been a huge part of my life and as I leave Elmwood I am taking with me countless memories of the joy I had in the classroom.”
College Principal, Jim Crooks spoke warmly of Mhairi’s contribution to Elmwood saying, “Mhairi brought her wealth of experience to her role as lecturer at Elmwood College. She was an inspiration to all who were privileged to have been taught by her. She has been a tremendous example of a good tutor. We all wish her every happiness in her well-deserved retirement. Staff and students alike will miss her. "
