Elmwood College recently hosted ‘Art with a Passion’ workshops, designed to widen the creative opportunities for people supported by Fife Social Work Supported Living Services. They provided an opportunity for the artists to work together and inspire one another to create a dynamic and energising environment for personal development.
Artists, Lyn Buys, Stewart Burt and Sam Miller taught felt making, printing and animation as well as other useful artistic techniques. Elmwood College art students Tracy McBride and Sally Light also help with the classes.
This initiative delivered an intensive professional working environment for the participants, providing tuition from professional artists and encouraging the use of new resources, materials and processes. The aim was to facilitate the exploration of their creative potential and, ultimately, to provide exhibition space for people who might not otherwise have the opportunity to sell their work by exhibiting in a wider forum.
The Summer School concluded with an art critique conducted by eminent local artists Will McLean, MBE and Marion Leven. A week long exhibition of the students work at Elmwood brought the summer school to close.
Christeen Winford, renowned filmmaker, has documented the Summer School throughout the week.
