Jim Crooks, Principal of Elmwood College has been appointed to the Advanced Procurement for Universities and Colleges (APUC) Board of Directors. Jim has 20 years’ experience in further education, latterly as Principal of Upper Bann Institute, a very successful and award-winning college in Northern Ireland. Previously, he was Assistant Principal at Dumfries and Galloway College, during which time Jim was seconded to the Scottish Funding Council to work on changes to the funding formula.
Jim is passionate about the college sector, believing in its traditional ethos of inclusion and opportunity for all. His strong financial and management experience, together with his knowledge of rural issues and international collaboration, serve Elmwood’s development needs well. APUC’s Board will also benefit from Jim’s financial expertise and prudent viewpoint, as APUC’s vision is to maximise the contribution that advanced procurement makes to Scotland’s investment in teaching and research.
Jim said: “I am delighted to accept the nomination on behalf of Scotland’s Colleges to the Board of APUC Ltd. Demonstrable prudence, good financial stewardship and efficiency are not only important in the Government’s current agenda but they are also admirable traditional Scottish traits. I look forward to contributing to the procurement initiatives developed by APUC Ltd and to helping Universities and Colleges maintain and develop their excellent track record in the best tradition of public accountability.”
APUC warmly welcomes Jim onto its Board of Directors. Jim will provide invaluable knowledge and experience in representing the further education sector, along with Susan Walsh, Principal of Cardonald College and Alan Williamson, Director of Finance at Jewel and Esk College.
