I have been fortunate enough and honoured to get a bursary from R&A and to study at Elmwood College near St. Andrews in Scotland. For someone who is passionate about golf and golf courses like me that is a dream come true. I have learned and seen much more than I have ever expected. Seeing all the historic golf courses and tradition of golf made me even more passionate and determined to promote the Scottish way of golf. How golf courses in Scotland are built, maintained and their roll in the community makes you wonder why and how did golf become so misunderstood and different around the world.

I studied in Elmwood College back in 2000 to 2001. After finishing my NC Greenkeeping I went to Gleneagles for almost a year where I took part in the ‘Gleneagles Excellence in Greenkeeping’ Award Scheme.  From 2002 I have been the Head Greenkeeper at Korpulfsstadir Golf Course, which is one of two golf courses operated by Reykjavik Golf Club.  I really enjoyed my time at Elmwood and became a better greenkeeper after studying there.  The teaching was brilliant and for a young boy from Iceland it was great to see and feel all the effort that everyone made at the college to make everything feel just like home!  With one exception, True Links Golf and the Old Course a few minutes away.  Well two exceptions!  Cheap beer!

I spent in Scotland more than 3 years. The representatives of the Elmwood College were always accommodating and helpful and so I felt here like at home . To study this prestigious college was always a dream for me. A dream which came true. The experience and the knowledge, which I obtained here, opened up the door to the world of greenkeeping for me and gave me great confidence for my profession.
