Who is the course for?
This full-time course is designed to offer a varied curriculum to students who require support within a caring environment.

Entry Requirements
All applicants should have completed S1-S4 in an educational setting and also have completed a Student Development school link programme assessment.

How will I study?
The course is delivered over 3 twelve-week blocks. Students undertake SQA units at Access 1,2 and ASDAN Towards Independence Awards. There is a strong emphasis on personal and social development including team working and confidence building. At the end of year one, an Elmwood College certificate will be issued. After two years, SQA and ASDAN awards will be achieved where appropriate.

NC Lifeskills 2

Who is the course for?
This full-time course is designed to offer a varied curriculum to students who require support within a caring environment.

Applicants should have completed years S1 - S4 in an educational setting and also have completed a Student Development school link programme assessment.

How will I study?
The course is delivered over 3 twelve-week blocks. Students undertake SQA units at Access 2, building towards an Access 2 Award. There is a strong emphasis on personal and social development including team working and confidence building and independent travel skills. At the end of year one, an Elmwood college certificate will be issued and, on completion of year two, the SQA group award will be issued where appropriate..

NC Life Options

Who is the course for?
The course is designed to improve levels of core skills and introduce students to vocational training areas in support of entry into vocational training or supported employment.

Duration of Study
One year full-time.

Entry Requirements
Applicants should have completed years S1 - S4 in an educational setting and also have completed a Student Development school link programme assessment.

How will I study?
The course is delivered over 3 twelve-week blocks. This full-time course offers a programme of general education with an emphasis on the students developing their strengths and interests. Personal and social development continues to be a focus while working towards a formal qualification. Students will undertake SQA Access 2 group award units.

NC Life Choices

Who is the course for?
This full-time course, which is primarily a second year for those students who have completed the NC Life Options programme, but still require to improve their levels of core skills. This course introduces students to vocational training areas in support of entry into vocational training or supported employment.

Entry Requirements
Applicants are required to have completed the Life Options course and also have completed a Student Development school link programme assessment.

How will I study?
The course is delivered over 3 twelve-week blocks. This full-time course builds on the success of the Life Options units with an emphasis on the world of work. Students will undertake a variety of SQA units. A work placement may be included in the second and/or third block.

Introduction to General Studies

Who is the course for?
The course is aimed at school leavers who may have required additional help while at school or who are expecting to achieve grade 5 or 6 at Standard Grade, and designed to attract pupils who would have either an interest in both general FE areas offered at Elmwood.

Entry Requirements
Applicants require Standard Grades at 5/6 or above, or a group of Access 3 units and should have completed a Student Development school link programme assessment.

How will I study?
The General Course subject areas include personal and social education, care, health and food technology, art and design, business administration, media studies, hairdressing, physical education and customer care/retail skills. Core Skills include communication, information technology, numeracy, problem-solving and working with others.

Introduction to Landbased Course

Who is the course for?
The course is aimed at school leavers who may have required additional help while at school or who are expecting to achieve grade 5 or 6 at Standard Grade and is designed to attract pupils who would have an interest in the specialist golf and landbased areas that lie within Elmwood's portfolio.

Entry Requirements
Applicants require Standard Grades at 5/6 or above, or a group of Access 3 units and should have completed a Student Development school link programme assessment.

How will I study?
The Landbased Course subject areas include managing environmental resources, greenkeeping, animal care, agriculture and horticulture.

Bridgework/School Link

Who is the course for?
A specified course designed in conjunction with local high schools to bridge the gap between school and college for third and fourth year pupils.

Entry Requirements
Applicants should be referred by schools. All applicants should complete an application form.

How will I Study?
Pupils can attend College for one day or two days per week during their final years in school, these courses have a high level of student support.
In conjunction with the schools, the programme builds on core skills and promotes life skills. Class sizes are small, with approximately 8-10 students.
Bridgework is a course designed in conjunction with the local High Schools to bridge the gap between school and college for third and fourth year pupils with additional needs.

Attendance 1 year part-time

Course Content
The programme is designed to offer a broad range of skills with students accessing a variety of tasters throughout the college. This not only allows students to gain an insight into specialist areas offered at college but also introduces them to student life.

Community Link Course

Who is the course for?
This course is aimed at students who have attended the Student Development Department on a full-time basis, in preparation for leaving college, ensuring a smooth transition to adult services in the community.

Entry Requirements
Potential students should have completed a full-time Student Development programme.

How will I Study?
This programme is delivered over 2 days per week 10.00 am to 3.00 pm. Classes are small with approximately 6-8 students and there is a high level of student support offered.

Attendance 1 year part-time

Course Content
The programme is designed to offer transferable skills, which include food hygiene certificate, cookery classes and a café project. This variety of subject areas will also allow students to access community links.

Progression Routes
Students would progress on to community-based learning and day care services as appropriate.
