NC in Horse Care

Who is the Course For?
The course is designed to give a practical grounding in horse management and equitation coupled with the core skills required for employment in the horse industry.

Entry Requirements
Applicants require a minimum of 4 Standard Grades at 3 or 4, one of which should be English. Some experience with horses is required, with a genuine interest in the equine industry and a sound basic education. Candidates should have the ability to follow instructions and carry out routine tasks with the minimum supervision. A practical assessment of the candidate's riding ability is included in the interview process. Applicants with a mature attitude who have experience but no formal qualifications are welcome and will be assessed on an individual basis.

How will I Study?
The course is delivered over 3 twelve-week blocks. Work Experience forms an integral part of the course. Students may also have the opportunity to present themselves for BHS examinations at approved centres.

SCQF level for this course is Level 4/5

Job Opportunities and Progression Routes
On successful completion of the course, there are employment opportunities in the equine sector in riding stables, livery yards, trekking centres and other equine establishments. Progression routes to higher level courses at other colleges are also available.
