NC Early Years Education and Child Care (SGA)

Who is the Course For?
This course is designed to provide people with a qualification that will enable them to work in a childcare setting with children from 0 to twelve years of age.

Entry Requirements
Applicants require a minimum of 4 Standard Grades at 2 or above, alternatively intermediate 2 qualifications will also be acceptable. Applicants with a mature attitude seeking a change in career are welcome and will be assessed on an individual basis. Entry is also possible from Introduction to Care.

What will I Study?
This course provides a professional qualification, which will enable you to register with the Scottish Social Services Council as a Support Worker. A work placement will be undertaken which will allow you to put the theories you have learned into practice.

NQ Health and Social Care

Who is the Course For?
The course is designed to provide people with the entry qualifications to pursue a career in Nursing or Social Care.

Entry Requirements
Applicants require a minimum of 4 standard grades at 2 or above. Alternatively, Intermediate 2 qualifications will also be acceptable. Applicants with a mature attitude wishing to have a career change are welcome and will be considered on an individual basis.

What will I Study?
The course is delivered over 3 twelve-week blocks. The course comprises 18 SQA National units, including two Highers.

Job Opportunities and Progression Routes
On successful completion students may progress onto HNC study in Healthcare. Alternatively, students may move directly into careers in Nursing and Social Care or can undertake a degree in a health related area such as Behavioural Science or Mental Health and Counselling. Experienced students will be able to apply to Dundee University for BA Nursing through the Access route. Students with an interest in social care may apply for employment in this area.


Introduction to Care

Who is this course for?
The course is designed to provide an introduction to the context of care. It is for people who are interested in gaining an understanding of the needs of people in a care setting whether this is in the childcare, health care or social care field. This course provides students with a National Certificate in Child, Health and Social Care.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must have a minimum of 4 Standard Grade passes at 3. Applicants with a mature attitude seeking a change in career are welcome and will be considered on an individual basis.

What will I Study?
The course is delivered over three twelve-week blocks and is made up of SQA National Units such as psychology, sociology and values for care.

SCQF level for this course is Level 4/5

HNC Early Education and Childcare

Who is the Course For?
This programme, together with the NQ in child Care, will enable candidates to work with under 12s in an educational or social care setting. It will enable students to apply for Early Years Officer posts within education departments.

Entry Requirements
Applicants should have 2 Highers at C or above or a National Certificate in a relevant subject. Applicants with a mature attitude seeking a change in career are welcome and will be considered on an individual basis.

What will I Study?
The course is delivered over three twelve week blocks. The course also includes a 3 unit work placement, which is completed over 2 days per week throughout the year.

HNC Health Care

Who is the Course For?
A course for people seeking responsible posts in the care sector. It has been designed as a broad-based programme to allow students to develop skills and underpinning knowledge, enabling access to a range of care professions. Typically, students will access HNC Health Care before applying for access to nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and social work behavioural science.

Entry Requirements
Applicants should have 2 Highers at C or above or a National Certificate in a relevant subject. Applicants with a mature attitude seeking a change in career are welcome and will be considered on an individual basis.

What will I Study?
The course is delivered over 3 twelve-week blocks. It is a course for people seeking responsible posts in the care sector. Subject areas include physiology, principles and practice of health care, behavioural science and health policy, plus a 4-credit unit work placement through the course.
