SHEEP SHEARING
The aim of the three day training is to instruct participants in the British Wool Marketing Board standards for:

  • Machinery maintenance and operation.
  • Correct handling techniques for sheep shearing.
  • Correct pattern for shearing

Day One:

  • Hand piece: Component parts
  • Lubrication
  • Servicing
  • Comb sharpening
  • Combs and cutters - lead and throw
  • Types of comb
  • Catching a ewe/hogg
  • Placement on boards
  • Reasons for handling in precise manner
  • Reason for using BWMB pattern
  • Shearing sheep

Day Two:

  • Catching and shearing sheep
  • Correct pattern and handling/footwork
  • Rolling of fleeces
  • Prevention of contamination

Day Three:

  • Catching and shearing sheep
  • Correct pattern and handling/footwork
  • Rolling fleeces
  • Packing fleeces
  • Labelling
  • Wool bags
  • Module assessment
  • BWMB assessment
  • Blue seal as Bronze seal  appropriate
