This one credit national certificate unit is designed to develop candidates' knowledge and understanding of children's development from birth to age 12 years at support worker level. The candidate will gain knowledge and understanding of children's development and of the main influences that affect their developmental progress.
Standard grade at credit level or Intermediate 2 qualifications in any relevant subject or have attended a relevant course or hold units in Care.
The unit comprises three outcomes, the assessment for which is closed book and must be undertaken at college:
1 Describe the development of children from 0-12 years.
2 Explain the main influences on children's development.
3 Evaluate the impact of influencing factors on the development of children.
The achievement of the above unit as well as the units Development Theory in Early Education and Childcare and Holistic Approaches to Child Health give the candidate the option to enter the exam for Early Education and Childcare Higher. An exam fee will apply.
